UP LISSA | Presenter
The UP Library and Information Science Students’ Association (UP LISSA) is the country’s premier LIS Student organiztion. It was established in 1962 as the ILIS Student Council and the sole institute-based student organization. In 2002, it was reorganized as an academic organization separate from the ILIS Student Council with the objectives of fostering camaraderie and unity among members, promoting scholastic and socio-cultural development of its members and providing opportunities for members to lead and serve the institute, university and nation.

The U.P. School of Library and Information Studies is the oldest library school in the country. It is the premier institution for higher education in library and information science not only in the country, but also in the region. Thus in accordance with this vision, the SLIS consistently produces top quality librarians and information professionals who are able to meet the pressing manpower needs brought about by new information systems and technology. Establishing its graduate program in 1962, the SLIS continues to improve its academic programs by covering all areas of research and information science, in addition to traditional library science courses which are also now taught using new techniques. Courses in information theory, information storage and retrieval, information management and analysis, information dissemination, electronic publishing, and intellectual property rights are among the subjects LIS students are made familiar with in the various subjects that they are required to take.
John Robert Powers | Co-Presenter
John Robert Powers teaches personality development, communications and specialized executive skills programs. JRP’s comprehensive and unique curricula create positive attitudes about self, develop presentational skills, improve corporate image and enhance employment opportunities.
The Powers organization was founded in 1923 by Mr. John Robert Powers in New York City. He is credited with starting the modern modelling industry and the first Personality Development program in the USA. He authored 3 books on personal improvement and image enhancement. Numerous famous international personalities have trained at Power’s locations – First Ladies Jackie Kennedy and Betty Ford both attended Powers’ schools; Princess Grace of Monaco was a Powers graduate; Jennifer Jones, Raquel Welch, Ava Gardner, Barbara Stanwyk, Diana Ross, Lucille Ball, Lee Remick, Ann Margaret, Henry Fonda, Tyrone Power, Fredric March, Ryan Locke, and Faith Ford were all John Robert Powers students.
JRP Manila opened in 1985 on Gamboa Street in Makati. Ms. Tessie Araneta Macasaet was the first director. The franchise group was headed by Mr. George Drysdale and Mr. Jim Hodge, both long-time Manila residents. Macasaet and her investor group saw the long term potential of the JRP system in the Philippine market.
Today the Manila school is headed by Marivic Padilla–Catala who is the International Director of John Robert Powers International. The International Headquarters for John Robert Powers for the region of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Middle East is located in Manila. It is headed by Mr. Richard C. Upton, President of JRP International. The Manila’s school is the Company’s prototype school for all JRP franchises in the international area. It is here that most of the programs and materials are develop for all markets.
The mission of John Robert Powers is to help individuals achieve their maximum potential through confidence building, communication proficiency, and image enhancement. The success rate is very high. The attested to by the numerous testimonies given by those who have completed a course at Powers.
JRP Manila has provided many training for many successful students. The multitalented Sarah Geronimo and Vice President Jejomar Binay are proud JRP alumni; 2002 Bb. Pilipinas Universe Karen Agustin, 2001 Bb. Pilipinas International Maricar Tolosa, multi-awarded actor Yul Servo, TV Personality Paolo Ballesteros, Recording artist and film director Sean Lim, Ford Modeling agency talent Francois Filamor, and RnB Princess Kyla make just a short list of JRP Manila’s success stories.

DZUP 1602 AM Radio | Official Media Partner (Radio)
DZUP 1602 is the official radio station of the University of the Philippines, Diliman. It was established in 1957 and was managed by the UP College of Engineering and the UP College of Arts and Sciences. During the First Quarter Storm in 1973, the DZUP transmitter was destroyed by government forces. Under the management of the UP College of Mass Communication, DZUP was revived in the 1980s.
